THE PROJECT TO BE DEVELOPED:

Hospital Sant Joan de Déu Barcelona (HSJD) is a private non-profit institution with a vocation for public service since its creation in 1867. Our hospital is dedicated to the comprehensive care of women, children and adolescents and has become one of the most important specialised centres in Europe in Paediatrics and Obstetrics, and a reference centre in healthcare, teaching and research.

Our care is based on the multidisciplinary work of our professionals and is characterised by a high level of specialisation which integrates cutting-edge technology, not only to improve the health of our patients and the community, but also to advance scientific knowledge. Through the Sant Joan de Déu Research Institute (IRSJD) and its Research Foundation (FSJD), we conduct research to find new and better treatments for maternal and foetal diseases, children and young adults’ health problems and mental health conditions. As a University of Barcelona affiliated hospital, we contribute to the training of health professionals at different stages, from undergraduate to master’s and doctoral degrees.

Within HSJD, the Directorate of Research, Innovation and Learning (DRIL) manages and coordinates the activities of the hospital related to the definition of the strategic agenda of its three areas of influence, overseeing the design, promotion and implementation of strategic institutional projects within them. Additionally, the Director of DRIL is also the Scientific Director of the IRSJD.

We, at the Directorate of Research, Innovation and Learning, have an innovative approach to management and are seeking a talented and motivated Project Manager to provide high-level support to the DRIL leadership team in the implementation of our strategic agenda related specifically to Advanced Therapies and Internationalisation.

You will be key in enabling the successful definition, deployment and monitoring of institutional strategic priorities, working in close collaboration with the Deputy Director of DRIL and, by extension, with the Director as well as with other hospital directorates and external partners.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Project Manager will work as part of the DRIL Strategic Management Office, offering:

• Strategic project support:

  • Support the DRIL leadership in the structuring, planning and implementation of complex, high-impact institutional projects in the fields of Internationalisation and Advanced Therapies.

  • Contribute to the definition of project scopes, objectives, workplans, timelines, milestones and risk management plans.

  • Ensure alignment of individual projects with DRIL and HSJD strategic priorities.

• Project planning, follow-up and reporting:

  • Plan, monitor and update the progress of activities using appropriate project management tools (e.g. Gantt charts, dashboards, risk and issue logs).

  • Coordinate and prepare periodic progress reports, executive summaries and decision-support documents for DRIL leadership and other governance bodies.

  • Set up, maintain and improve internal reporting frameworks for large-scale strategic projects.

• Documentation and strategic writing:

  • Draft and edit high-quality strategic documents, concept notes, internal briefing papers, presentations and position documents related to Internationalisation and Advanced Therapies.

  • Support the preparation of materials for institutional meetings, visits, negotiations and international missions.

  • Contribute to the preparation of governance, operational and sustainability models for new initiatives when required.

• Stakeholder coordination and liaison:

  • Coordinate with other relevant hospital directorates to ensure coherent implementation of the DRIL’s strategy.

  • Act as a point of contact for internal stakeholders involved in strategic projects (clinical leaders, research groups, management units, support services).

  • Facilitate interactions with external partners, advisors and networks (e.g. international collaborators, consultants, advisory boards).

• Meetings and governance support:

  • Organise and prepare project-related meetings, workshops and governance committees (logistics, agendas, supporting documentation, minutes, follow-up of action points).

  • Participate in regular meetings with the Deputy Director, Director and DRIL team to review project status and upcoming priorities.

• Operational and transversal tasks:

  • Support the identification of needs and opportunities arising from strategic projects and translate them into structured workplans.

  • Contribute to the mapping and monitoring of strategic initiatives across HSJD, avoiding overlaps and promoting synergies.

  • Liaise with other functional areas (legal, finance, HR, communications, etc.) for the effective implementation of strategic initiatives, including preparation of contractual documentation with external providers when needed.

THE PROFILE WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

• Dynamic, highly motivated, creative and proactive professional with a proven ability to work independently and as part of a team.

• Demonstrable experience in project management, preferably in complex, multi-stakeholder environments (healthcare, research, consultancy or similar).

• Experience in the design, implementation and follow-up of strategic or institutional projects (e.g. development of strategic plans, internationalisation initiatives, clinical or research programmes).

• Fluent spoken and written English. A functional level of Spanish and Catalan is expected within a reasonable period after hiring.

• Excellent writing, synthesis and presentation skills, with the ability to produce high-quality strategic documents for senior management.

• Strong interpersonal skills to build effective relationships with a wide range of collaborators and stakeholders.

• Excellent organisational skills, attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.

NICE TO HAVE:

• Previous experience in a consultancy firm and/or within the management structure of a biomedical, healthcare or academic institution.

• Postgraduate degree or specialised training in Biomedical Sciences, Project Management, Health Management, Business Administration, International Relations or related fields.

• Experience in the development of operational plans, governance models, sustainability plans or business cases for strategic initiatives.

• Knowledge of the local, national and international healthcare and research ecosystems and their main actors.

• Familiarity with international collaboration, partnerships or global health projects will be an asset.
